Paintings Gallery

Here are some examples of my paintings. I have tried to show the number of styles and media I use as well as the subject matter that interest me. Most of these pieces are now privatly owned but I will soon be adding a gallery of work available for purchase. This will, however take a while because I only have one painting at home after my move from Berlin to london.

study of a womans' skull 1

Watercolour on paper

Artist's collection.

I have always enjoyed painting skulls and used to practice a lot in school with a plastic copy, so when a friend showed me the skull that he had found in england I jumped at the chance to borrow it! This skull, however was not in the best repair and continually lost teeth as I sketched, it is about two hundred years old and reeked of peat! As you can clearly see here her face was a little distorted, bent slightly to the right and she had lost a lot of bone from her right cheekbone.

I am proud of this particular piece because I managed to ignore the urge to use a black pen to detail it and still achieved depth.

study of a womans' skull 2

Oil on canvas

Artist's collection.

I would love to show this painting in its' entirety, however it was taken off of it's frame and I believe it is rolled up with some other pieces deep in my archives.

It is not as detailed as the watercolour because I was enjoying a phase of slap and dash painting in oil at the time.

Lili

Exhibited in December 2003 in "Zür Möbel Fabrik" Berlin.

Private collection

This image was scanned directly for the flyer, unfortunately I do not have the complete picture, but it may be available some time in the near future, it is, however a little revealing... wait maybe a blurred image from the vernisage will do for now!

Moonlight through trees

oil on canvas

Exhibited in May 2004 in Circus Hostel in Berlin.

Private collection

This is one of a number of paintings in a short lived blue period. One of which is hanging in my bedroom right now and shows the moon in all her glory staring through a single tree. Maybe I will show it to you all some day!

It will surprise those of you that know my work that there are not more paintings of trees, I can explain; they have all gone and since I am now in London I don't suppose I will see a forest for a while. This love of forests has been with me since I learned to paint with Mr R Howes in N. Ireland, though my style lacks his energy and skill somewhat!

Maxamilianstrasse

Pen & watercolour

Artists' collection

This is the follow up to the next piece. For those of you who enjoy painting architecture Augsburg is the place to be! What's more the summers are warm and long. I painted this street many times and managed to pay my rent while I studied there through sales made on the street, once long before I had finished painting. I even used to sketch portraits there.

Maxamilianstrasse

Pen & ink

Private collection

I have added this painting Of Augsburg's main street with the previous picture to illustrate the stark difference in line styles I use. This one is a quicky, taking little more than ten minutes. It is non the less a very powerful style, and the colours always come out vibrant and the shadows, distinct.

I find it helpful to do a little study like this before undertaking a more complicated and detailed piece, I find that it relaxes the vision and losens the hand.

the moment

Exhibited in December 2003 in "Zür Möbel Fabrik" Berlin.

Private collection

the moment was the success of this exhibition. This photo was taken just before the vernissage and there I am talking to Clemens the curator of the gallery at the time, now the owner of GMT club in Berlin

Sunrise in a forest

Exhibited in December 2004 in Circus Hostel Berlin

Private collection

This was a very popular painting which thankfully has ended up staying in my family, it is the best example of a subject that has always fascinated me, light through trees.

Wasp penultimate

Artist's collection

There is a photo of me starting this piece in 1996, it was then put aside and left for about seven years. I love it though. It was part of a story that has been building up in my mind and belongs together with the next piece, "Don't run"

Don't run

Private collection

This piece belongs together with the previous untitled sketch. It was for a story that I was working on along the lines of paranoia, fear and despiration and has the appropriate title "Don't run, this isn't about WHERE you are!" written on it. A nice combination of Comic and fine art.
